Getting Tenant Insurance

Tenant insurance is mandatory for guests — here's why, what it covers, and how to get a policy.

SpacesShared requires all students to have Tenant Insurance as a condition of the homesharing agreement. This protects both the student and host and ensures that any damage or liability issues are properly covered. Proof of Tenant Insurance must be provided prior to move in and can be uploaded in the Verifications section of your SpacesShared account.

Why get tenant insurance?

Living in a homesharing arrangement with an older adult can be a rewarding and mutually beneficial experience. However, it's important to protect yourself and your belongings during your stay.

  • Protection of Personal Belongings: Tenant Insurance covers personal belongings in case of theft, fire, water damage, or other covered perils — electronics, clothing, furniture, books, jewelry, bicycles, and more.
  • Liability Coverage: Protects you in case someone is injured while visiting you, or if you accidentally cause damage to the home or someone else's property.
  • Coverage for Additional Living Expenses: If the home becomes uninhabitable due to a covered event, helps cover the cost of temporary housing, meals, and other necessary expenses.
  • Peace of Mind: Knowing that your belongings and liability are covered can give you peace of mind.
  • Affordable Cost: Tenant insurance is typically very affordable for the coverage provided.

Two options for students

  1. Choose a provider of your own. SpacesShared can provide any information that the provider might need to issue the insurance.
  2. Get Tenant Insurance from SquareOne, with whom SpacesShared has a partnership. Apply directly through SpacesShared once your agreement is signed.

Open the screen for insurance by clicking on Homeshare Agreement on the left hand menu and then on the Insurance button. Apply to SquareOne from SpacesShared, or upload proof of insurance from your provider. Once proof has been uploaded, our Customer Success team will review and approve the document.
