All hosts and guests are expected to complete a Criminal Background Check done by our partners Certn. Criminal background checks can be done only when there is an approved Homeshare Agreement Request and the agreement is being finalized by the Host and the Guest.
Criminal Background Checks are waived for International Students that have not resided in Canada for more than one year or do not have a Canadian Address. They still must go through the process and confirm some details for us.
Initiate the Criminal Background Check
- Login to spacesshared.ca.
- Click on Verifications in the left menu.
- In the Verifications screen, click on "Start Verification" against the Background Check heading.
Providing Information for the Background Check
You will need to provide information about yourself if you have not already completed it. This consists of Profile Information, Address, and Profile Picture. If you have not completed it, you'll be prompted to complete it before continuing.
Follow the rest of the steps by clicking Next to either submit the data to Certn for verification or to provide necessary information to waive the verification process if you are an international student coming to Canada for the first time.
You will be notified by email once your background check is completed or the waiver for background check is reviewed by the Customer Success Team. Background Checks have to be completed before the Move In of the guest into the Homeshare.
Please note: if the profile picture that you provided is not sufficient (lighting, clarity, contrast etc.) Certn will reach out to you to request the submission of another profile picture. They may also reach out if they require any specific information not already provided.
